A record label dedicated to new acoustic music from the left coast. Our mission is to spread the word about some of the best in acoustic-based music that is happening today out west.
Kevin Vance, long time Bay Area folk DJ (his program, A Patchwork Quilt, airs Saturdays on 91.7 fm KALW San Francisco), played "some of the best of Local Folks from 2000-2009" on Saturday Dec. 26. He included two Wildplum releases in his list 20 CDs. He played Its Important from Up & Down by the Palm Wine Boys and Everything from Caren Armstrong's CD Everything. Kevin's list included tracks from artists such as Joan Baez, Michael Franti, Houston Jones, and Robin Flower & Libby McLaren- pretty good company! You can find the complete list at http://www.nodepression.com/profile/KevinVance.
There were a lot of really great CDs released by Bay Area artists this past decade. We at Wildplum are very proud that Kevin selected two from our little group to be among his "best of the decade". Congratulations to Caren and Palm Wine Boys. And a very big thank you to Kevin Vance!
Secular rides through spiritual terrain
Pop Tunes for Mystics, the new CD by Jim Ocean (founder and chief songwriter for Celtic Elvis), has been released. Instead of the society skewering sarcasm of his former band's music, Jim has created a set of enchanting art songs built around spiritual themes, family, love and fear. Thoughtful lyrics over a bed of beautiful music. Check it out.

Palm Wine Boys- New CD available NOW!
Old Stories, the latest CD from the Palm Wine Boys, has been released. The disc features the rich vocal harmonizing, intricate guitar interplay and lilting rhythms that the Band is know for. Lyrically, many of the songs touch on spiritual themes, not surprising given that the CD was recorded largely during and immediately after Richard Linley's successful bout with cancer.
Wildplum signs Escalay
Wildplum has signed the Middle Eastern jazz ensemble Escalay. Formed by oud master Tom Chandler, the band's name honors his teacher, the Nubian oud master Hamza El Din. Escalay melds classical Arabic music and jazz in the tradition of John Coltrane to create its own utterly unique musical style, ranging from Nubian and Arabic influences to free jazz, all the while searching for musical transcendence, or "tarab". The songs on the as yet untitled instrumental CD will be mostly original compositions by Chandler and will feature oud, bass clarinet, upright bass, violin and drums.
Attention Music Supervisors:
Many songs by Wildplum artists lend themselves very easily to audio post uses such as television sound tracks and film scores. Wildplum can negotiate and sign "All In" license agreements for most songs by Wildplum artists. Please contact Wildplum for details.
